Denton blues

Just a quick update...I had lost my password, been busy with work, found out my Ex not only lives in the same stinkin' town, but is now studying Library Science at the same place where I work (I must've inspired her, who knew?), and she's joined the same activist librarian organization that I sit on as a member of its coordinating committee; It's an organization dedicated to a Left/Progressive worldview, which is ironic since I know my Ex is NOT a Leftist, Progressive, or anything like that. She is anti-war, and doesn't like Bush, but that's not saying much these days. Her world view is probably somewhere between Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. Maybe she's changed, but I'll never be convinced.

Anyway, I'm blogging from a hotspot downtown because my wireless network at home is acting screwy and won't stay connected for more than a few minutes--if that. This is still an improvement over yesterday, where it was completely offline...even if I brought the stupid laptop into the same room as the slow-as-molasses, crappy E-machines desktop I use as my "hub".

I'm exhausted, but I can't sleep thanks to the Diet Coke I drank to give me energy to keep fiddling with my home network, which I gave up on. I have a date with the Linksys guys this weekend, when I can devote time to it.

The cataloging gig is going well...still need to read the latest Thomas Mann critique of the Working Group Report on the Future of Bibliographic Control. I am a strong supporter of Mann, and look forward to his latest critique. It has generated a lot of AUTOCAT and RADCAT traffic, to be sure. In the meantime, I continue the quiet tradition of subversive cataloging founded by Sandy Berman...enhancing shared records with additional subject access not found on OCLC, but relevant to the work in hand as a finding aid.

Berman was/is a lot more braver than I'll ever be--but he was an inspiration to me in Library school and still is in my professional life.

Anyway, I feel badly about posting so infrequently. I had an idea for a post about a month ago but never got around to it. Will try to do better. Signing off for now.
